Hellboy is coming back but in an unexpected way.
Instead of a new installment in what was meant to be a trilogy, we are going to see our favourite antihero in a reboot, titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen. Ron Perlman, who perfectly fit the role of Hellboy, won’t be back and neither will Guillermo del Toro. It has been reported that part 3 has failed to launch after the studio refused to secure a bigger budget for the movie.
Guillermo recently confirmed this news stating that his vision for Hellboy 3 was rebuffed and a “sequel will not happen and that is to be the final thing about it“.
However, creator Mike Mignola surprised everyone this morning when he confirmed that a new Hellboy movie is on its way and he is helping to write it. David Harbour (Stranger Things) has signed on to play the demon antihero and Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall has taken over from del Toro. Perhaps that means we can expect more brutality and gore in the upcoming reboot.
There is no release date as of yet.
