Hunger Games Mockingjay Song a Top 40 Hit!

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 may have made less money in it’s opening week in the U.S than predecessor CATCHING FIRE, but the film is enjoying a variety of successes overseas…including a U.K Top 40 pop song hit!

‘The Hanging Tree’ a haunting (and somewhat repetitive!) tune featuring Jennifer Lawrence’s vocals, popped up on the U.K charts at No. 29, the BBC reports.

Interestingly, the film’s director, Francis Lawrence, recently told Vulture that the 24-year-old actress was extremely anxious about singing the song on set. She reportedly cried during the first take.

“She would have much rather we used somebody else’s voice” he said, “[but] it shouldn’t sound like a professional. It should sound like a real girl singing it. So she did it”

Despite earning $50million less at the U.S box office over its first seven days than CATCHING FIRE did last year, MOCKINGJAY PT1 has still raked in $201.4million internationally. Good news for Lionsgate, as it means the third installment shall atleast equal installment number two’s takings.

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. As a pre-teen Sian spent more pocket money then she earned on cinema tickets and thus sought a job at the cinema. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
