Word has it that the man who bought us films like Super 8 and Mission Impossible III and TV series such as Lost and Alias will be directing the new Disney Star Wars.
It is reported “an individual close to the production” has revealed this tidbit of information, and when asked for immediate confirmation or denial Lucasfilm and Abram’s spokesperson refused to comment… interesting!
Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm last year and announced it would make new Star Wars films, fans, media and industry executives have speculated as to which lucky soul would take the director’s chair. Abrams’ name always came up, however in an interview in November he stated he wouldn’t take the job.
If this little rumour is indeed true then we can only assume the lure of the Jedi was simply too strong.
Though he has several producing jobs in front of him, Abrams had been uncommitted as a director. He will have to jump right into Star Wars, which Disney has scheduled for a 2015 release. Little Miss Sunshine screenwriter Michael Arndt is writing the script.
