Jeremy Renner to take over Mission Impossible franchise

After the next instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise was announced last year there were speculations that someone within the film would be taking over for Tom Cruise and rebooting the franchise thereafter.

Cruise is currently filming Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol, Directed by Brad Bird and also starring Jeremy Renner, who apparently is being groomed to take over the franchise. When questioned Renner although vague seemed enthusiastic about the transition stating in an interview with MTV, “It’s a franchise to potentially take over. I can’t predict the future and what they want, but that’s certainly the idea”. If asked if the script included details of the hand over or if the transition would be made apparent in another sequel he stated “I can’t really go into the details of the script, because that’s still evolving. It’s Tom’s baby. He’s the engine behind the thing. What happens after that, we’ll see”.

So basically what everyone, including Jeremy Renner is saying is, maybe or maybe not. Renner seems pretty excited about the prospect of taking over for Cruise and it seems that the producers told him to be as vague in interviews as possible, he hasn’t really confirmed either way. The prospect for more Mission Impossible movies is an exciting one but we shall see if the changes will be widely accepted. All those who are Ethan Hunt Fans may become disenfranchised.
