A limited amount of tickets are now on sale to the Perth Premiere screening of NEW AUSTRALIAN FILM COMEDY THE BBQ on Monday January 15 under the stars at Telethon Community Cinemas, Burswood. The red carpet will be rolled out for special guests, andstars of the film – Shane Jacobson and Manu Feildel – who will be there to meet fans and introduce their film, ahead of its wider release in cinemas on February 22.
The special advance screening is presented by Nova 937, who on the night will be hosting plenty of pre-film fun including a thong throwing competition and of course, an Aussie BBQ!
Shane Jacobson, whose box office hits include Oddball and Kenny, and Magda Szubanski, one of Australia’s favourite comic actresses (Babe, Kath & Kim), share the screen with celebrity chef Manu Feildel (MKR) in his first acting role and RockWiz’s Julia Zemiro in THE BBQ. Director is Stephen Amis (The 25th Reich, The Real Thing) with producers Lynne Wilson, Tait Brady, Deb Fryers and Amis. The film also stars Nicholas Hammond, still remembered for his youthful role inThe Sound of Music, and introduces young Albury-born actor Frederick Simpson in his first film role.
A gentle comic fable about family, food and fulfilling your potential, THE BBQ follows laid-back suburban everyman Darren “Dazza” Cook (Jacobson), who loves to entertain his friends and neighbours with his weekly backyard barbecues. Dazza has also inherited a dubious family history linked to explorer Captain James Cook. While his 12-year-old son, Jayden, is challenged to prove this ancestral link, Dazza takes his passion for the barbecue out of the backyard and into the international arena.
Released by Madman Entertainment in association with Label Distribution, THE BBQ opens nationally in cinemas on Thursday Feb 22, following the World Premiere in Albury-Wodonga (where the film was shot) on January 14, the Perth premiere on January 15, and a series of advance screenings around the country over the Australia Day long weekend.
