Justice League Announced!

Justice League Announced!

It’s been officially announced from Warner Bros themselves that a Justice League of America film is in development, and planned to follow on from the 2016 film currently referred to as Batman vs. Superman, which serves as the follow up to last year’s Man of Steel. Still with us?

Confirming rumours that the Warner Bros/DC Comics approach to its line-up of superhero films will differ from Marvel/Disney in that the franchise is limiting itself to one series of films for the time being. Don’t expect to see an origin film for the Flash, or Wonder Woman in the lead-up to Justice League.

It has been reported that while Warner Bros executives are open to the idea of spin-off or cross universe films, there’s nothing currently green lit for production at this time, and new characters such as Wonder Woman and the recently announced Cyborg (to be played by Ray Fisher) will be introduced in this one series of films.

JLA is estimated to be a 2018 or 2019 release, this announcement also comes with the news that Zack Snyder is in place to direct Justice League alongside returning cast members Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot.

With Disney releasing two films a year in their Avengers series and Warners just focusing on three films across potentially up to 5 or 6 years, it certainly leaves the amount of content from DC far behind that of Marvel, who despite the number of films being released, have proven with Captain America 2 that it’s not at the sacrifice of quality.

Excited about the Justice League film? Unsure about Zack Snyder at the helm? What characters would you be most excited to see in the roster? Zatanna, Hawkman, Red Tornado, Firestorm?

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
