Warner Bros have huge plans for Justice League Dark with a new director on board for the project. After the mighty talented Guillermo Del Toro left to focus on “other things”, the studio decided to bring in Doug Liman to helm the live action movie. His distinctive style is best showcased in films like The Bourne Identity, Mr and Mrs Smith and Edge of Tomorrow.
The studio has also decided to ditch Del Toro’s version of the story and hired Michael Gilio to write the new script. Gilio is an interesting choice as he only has two writing credits under his name and hasn’t created a script for almost ten years. Award winner Scott Ruding is set to act as the producer alongside Del Toro, who has agreed to stay on as a producer only.
We hear there is a possibility the title will change from Justice League Dark to Dark Universe to try to avoid confusion among the audience. While not much is known of the plot and cast yet, we do know it revolves around John Constantine (previously depicted by Keanu Reeves), Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, as well as Etrigan the Demon. Warner Bros has also confirmed that the story will play a major role in the DC universe.
Now let’s hope they learned from their mistake and won’t turn this into a PG13 rated movie like they have with Suicide Squad.
Justice League Dark/Dark Universe is set for a March 2019 release.
