THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is a British horror-thriller directed by Juan Carlos Medina. The director is relatively unknown with only one other feature, PAINLESS (2012) to his name. The screenplay is by Jane Goldman of Kickass, X-Men and Kingsman fame. Goldman often co-writes and produces with director Matthew Vaughn. The film, is an adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s 1994 murder mystery novel Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem. Originally conceived with the late Alan Rickman as the lead, the actor left the project owing to his failing health. His role of Inspector John Kildare went to Bill Nighy. Other cast includes Olivia Cooke and Douglas Booth.
The story concerns a series of murders that has shaken the community to the point where people believe that only a legendary creature from dark times–the mythical so-called Golem–must be responsible. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2016. It is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom in September 2017. Other territories to be announced.
