Lion Q&A and Preview

Lion Q&A and Preview

2017 is shaping up to be another banner year for Australian cinema. It kicks off early with the amazing true story of LION in January.

At the age of five, Saroo was lost on a train which took him thousands of kilometers across India, away from home and family. Saroo survived alone on the streets of Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by Tasmanian couple, Sue and John Brierley. Twenty five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and the revolutionary technology Google Earth, he set out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

LION, stars Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara and David Wenham, and has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards. The film has been nominated for Best Picture, Nicole Kidman has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Dev Patel has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Composers Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka have also been nominated for Best Original Score. Producer Emile Sherman said: “From the moment I first heard Saroo’s incredible true story, I wanted to make a film about his life that would resonate with audiences around the world.”

Perth film-lovers have the opportunity to meet the actual Saroo Brierly and his mother Sue Brierly at a Q&A Preview Screening. Sue Brierley is the loving mother of Saroo’s adoptive family. She could never have imagined her family’s life would end up as a feature film, or that Nicole Kidman would be playing her. Sue is a champion of international adoption and completely supportive of Saroo’s need to find his birth family.

The Q&A Preview of the movie is on Sunday January 15 at Luna Cinemas, Leederville. Details here.
