After 5 years of going back and forth, Walt Disney Pictures have announced their plans to create a live action film based on the adventures of Peter Pan‘s fairy, Tinker Bell.
Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect and Hunger Games) was originally set to play the mischievous fairy, however, she has now been replaced by Reese Witherspoon.
Reese has also taken on the role as producer alongside her business partner Bruna Papandrea. The duo’s production company, Pacific Standard, have produced such successful movies as Gone Girl and Wild. There is no news on who will take on the job of directing, but we do know that Finding Dory’s Victoria Strouse is attached to provide the screenplay.
It is being reported that Tink is being developed in the vein of Maleficent – this Tinker Bell tale is conceived as “the story you don’t know,” and will offer a new perspective on the tiny character.
