The Luna Cinemas are Perth’s premiere venue for contemporary, classic and arthouse cinema. Luna Leederville is ensconsed in the cafe strip and showcases the best international films and festivals. In our city’s warmer months there’s no better way to see these visual treats than outdoors. The Luna Outdoor re-opens in less than a week for Summer 2014/15.
The Outdoor’s season gets off to a sonic start from December 5 with GIMME SOME TRUTH – RTFM’S MUSIC DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL. Showcasing 8 films over 6 days, Gimme Me Some Truth will feature 3 Australian premieres and 2 World premieres. Screening from Friday 5 December to Thursday 11 Dec at both Luna Cinemas and Luna Outdoor.
GIMME ME SOME TRUTH OPENS FRI DEC 5 with HEAVEN ADORES YOU(18+) – 8.30pm: (screens indoors with the after party in the outdoor cinema) – Ticket holders will also enjoy a complimentary drink, treats from Yelp Perth, entry to the pre-party and opening night after party featuring sets from RTRFM DJs Chris Wheeldon (Homegrown) and Shannon Jenkins (Siamese Dream).
GIMME ME SOME TRUTH CLOSING NIGHT FILM: FINDING FELA (18+) – 8.30pm followed by After party. Ticket holders will also receive a complimentary drink, entry to the pre-party and closing night after party featuring DJ Charlie Bucket (Global Rhythm Pot).

HEAVEN ADORES YOU (USA) – FRI DEC 5 – (With Opening Night Event from 7.00pm). An intimate, meditative inquiry into the life and music of Elliott Smith. By threading the music of Elliott Smith through the dense, yet often isolating landscapes of the three major cities he lived in — Portland, New York City, Los Angeles.
KEEP ON KEEPING ON (USA) – SAT DEC 6 – 6.30pm. Shot over the course of five years by first time filmmaker Al Hicks, Keep On Keepin’ On depicts a 23-year-old, blind piano prodigy, Justin Kauflin, and music legend and teacher Clark Terry, 89. After a life spent working with and teaching the most totemic figures in jazz history, Terry continues to attract and cultivate budding talents.
NO ENCORE (AUS) SAT DEC 6 – 8.30pm. West Australian experimental music ensemble Decibel embarks on a regional tour of the stateʼs southwest, taking their strange, sometimes confronting music to small towns and baffled locals who never saw it coming. Directed by Kenta McGrath. (World Premiere).
COME WORRY WITH US (CAN) – MON DEC 8 – 8.30pm – Partners in love and art, Efrim Menuck and Jessica Moss were making music and a modest living touring in their own band, the extraordinary Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra. But when their son Ezra is born, everything changes. In the age of the digital download, constant touring is synonymous with economic survival. But is the road a place for a toddler?
FINDING FELA (USA) FRI DEC 11 (With Closing Night Party from 7.00pm) Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmakerAlex Gibney, Finding Fela is a vibrant, politically-charged journey in to the life of the beloved, celebrated father of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti. He used the self-created musical movement of Afrobeat to express his revolutionary political opinions staging an ideological uprising against the dictatorial Nigerian government of the 1970s and 1980s. His influence helped bring a change towards democracy in Nigeria and promoted Pan Africanist politics to the world.

ST VINCENT (M) starring Bill Murray, who is already generating Oscar buzz for his performance in the engaging heart-felt comedy; Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon in WILD (CTC*) from the director of The Dallas Buyers Club; THE IMITATION GAME (M), a nail-biting real life drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the performance of his career as Alan Turing, who together with his team of code-breakers was instrumental in cracking Nazi Germany’s Enigma code; Paul Thomas Anderson’s new crime drama INHERENT VICE (CTC), based on a story by Thomas Pynchon with Joaquin Phoenix heading a cast that includes Reese Witherspoon, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin and Owen Wilson; the Cannes Award winning director Michael Bennet’s FOXCATCHER (M) based on shocking true events, tells the fascinating story of Olympic gold medal-winning brothers Mark and Dave Schultz and their tragic relationship with a multi-millionaire benefactor, John du Pont. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s phenomenal new film BIRDMAN or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance (CTC) is a black comedy starring Michael Keaton with a stellar cast featuring Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis.
