Mad Max on a fury road to nowhere?

Mad Max on a fury road to nowhere?

We’ve been following the development of the new film in the Mad Max franchise here at accessreel for quite some time now, the news broke previously that the film was titled ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and that actor Tom Hardy (who will soon be seen portraying the villain ‘Bane’ in the new Batman film) had been cast in the lead role.

News on ‘Fury Road’ has been sporadic at best, and at the recent Cannes film festival, Tom Hardy wasn’t able to offer anything firm about the status of the project. Speaking at the festival the actor has been reported as commenting;

Who knows when it’ll come out? I’ve been on stand-by for two years… but it’s all part of it. It’s kind of the cool thing to do, to be elusive with dates and all that.

The actor appeared to be quite light hearted when discussing the film, and by all accounts George Miller is still attached to direct. Miller announced in 2003 that a script had been completed for a fourth Mad Max film, however there was no obvious progress on the project which Miller restated his commitment to it in both 2006 and 2007.

With almost ten years passed since the script was announced complete, it appears very little has happened with the film, we’ll have to wait and see if things gain traction in the near future, we can only hope!

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
