Few months ago, Channing Tatum told reporters that he believed the entire cast of Magic Mike (2012) would be returning for the sequel, Magic Mike XXL (Warner Brothers).
However, recently director Gregory Jacobs has confirmed that Matthew McConaughey will not be reprising his role as the strip club owner. No reason has been given but it looks like it could be a case of conflicting schedules. McConaughey is currently filming the Gus Van Sant drama “The Sea of Trees,” and filming for “XXL” has already begun a few days ago.
Alongside Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer and Matt Bomer are also returning to their roles in Magic Mike XXL. They will be joined by Jada Pinkett Smith (The Matrix Reloaded), Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Day) and Amber Heard (Machete Kills). Jacobs has hinted that there will be other new cast members added but he did not say who they would be at this time.
The director also discussed the plot by saying “It’s a road trip movie, and put it this way: It’s different enough that once you see it you’ll understand why we made a sequel. No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice.”
In 2012, Magic Mike grossed an impressive 167 million dollars and something tells me, the sequel won’t have any problems surpassing that.
In related news that I am sure will excite all men, Channing Tatum and Gregory Jacobs are giving someone a chance to meet the cast and be an extra during their dance scenes. Better hurry though as the competition closes on the 29th. That is, if you are so inclined…..
Magic Mike XXL is set for a July 2015 release.
