It’s official! Disney have announced Emily Blunt is set to star in their Mary Poppins sequel.
Though it’s been discussed freely in the press for some time, the studio has now officially confirmed her involvement.
Like it’s predecessor, the film will be a musical. It will reunite the director and producing team behind Disney’s hit film musical INTO THE WOODS. Oscar nominee and Tony Award winner Marc Shaiman will be composing an all-new score and, along with Emmy nominee and Tony Award winner Scott Wittman, will be writing brand new original songs…..not an easy task given the classic status of the songs from the original flick!
Blunt will be joined by Lin-Manuel Miranda who will play a new character; a street lamplighter called Jack.
Disney say this of the plot:
Drawing from the wealth of material in P.L. Travers’ seven additional novels, the story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
Disney has slated the pic for release on December 25, 2018.
