The Avengers has finally been knocked off it’s box office top spot with Men in Black 3 shuffling into first position over the three day weekend frame.
Sony’s $230 million dollar spending spree on MIB 3 suggests it was pretty darn confident in the action-comedy’s supposed built-in fan base. Yet The US box office shows American fans may have gone off the Smithy and Jones combo, with a disappointing $55 million taken over the weekend.
Lucky for Sony, other parts of the world are still up for a bit of alien action, with the studio reporting $132 million in takings internationally since the film’s release.
The Avengers still holds strong in second place taking $37 million this weekend; 34 per cent less than last weekend. Marvel are still laughing all the way to the bank however and can feel cosy in second place content with the knowledge that it’s likely no-one will match their profits this year (who dares to challenge me on that one?!)
