This one comes out of the “that’s so crazy it just might work” basket. Director James Bobin has been confirmed to direct Sony Pictures mashup of the MEN IN BLACK and 21 JUMP STREET franchises.
For those of you saying to yourselves, “Huh it’s like those sequels they had at the end of 22 JUMP STREET, how ironic,” then Hollywood is way ahead of you, bub. Jump Street producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are on record as saying the sequels are Jump Street canon and will need to be worked into the world of MIB 23. Which sounds like excellent fun and the beginning of the worst retcon nightmare since the X-Men series started its timeline shenanigans.
Bobin who directed THE MUPPETS and ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS has been in talks on the project since March. 22 JUMP STREET’s writer Rodney Rothman is engaged to pen the crossover flick. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will have the lead roles. No word yet on whether MIB originals Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith or even MIB 3’s Josh Brolin will make an appearance. Cameras will roll towards the end of 2016.
