Do you have a friend going out with a schmuck? What you need is a professional heartbreaker – an irresistible man that can break up an unhappy relationship and save loved ones from an unsavoury life ahead. Alex (the brilliant Romain Duris), professional home-wrecker, and his sister and brother-in-law are partners in this lucrative activity which nonetheless has one golden rule: Alex only agrees to get involved with women who are unhappy girlfriends. A father who hates his future son-in-law hires Alex one week before the marriage he wants to prevent. The only problem is, the groom seems perfect and they look so in love. However, in need of money, Alex agrees to abandon his “code of ethics” and seduce the elegant young woman, Juliette (Vanessa Paradis). This is his biggest challenge yet and his charms have never failed him before… but when he feels like the one falling in love things start to go awry with hilarious results. Heartbreaker is a modern romantic comedy with the charm of classic Hollywood fare from yesteryear, as it combines the glamour of To Catch A Thief with irresistible contemporary hi-jinks and pop culture references. Set amongst luxe locations in the South of France, this is a winning story of love, reminding us of the beauty of a free spirit versus predictability. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse; their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime.
