More Transformers?

It seems that business is going well for the company ‘Hasbro’ with a reported ten per cent increase in third quarter profits occurring, of course Hasbro is the company behind the ‘Transformers’ toy line (amongst other incarnations of the property) from which the Michael Bay directed series of films originated from.

The ‘Transformers’ property is being hailed as a major driver behind Hasbro’s recent performance, additionally comments from Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner have indicated that a fourth live action Transformers film may not be as unlikely as previously thought. The CEO has stated that Hasbro is in active discussions with studio partner Paramount, director Michael bay, and executive producer Steven Spielberg about a potential fourth Transformers film.

The possibility of a fourth film in the franchise is not unexpected, ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ has currently generated approximately $1.1 billion in revenues world wide, overall the franchise has been an enormous financial success.

Leading up to the release of the third film in the series however, director Michael Bay did state that this would be his last outing in the series, of course given the success of the franchise and his enjoyment with such vehicular and military orientated films it wouldn’t be that huge a shock if he changed his mind and pushed on with a new instalment. Alternatively might we see him take a step back into more of a producing role with a new director to take over?

Either way it’s hard to imagine the relevant entities behind the films tinkering with the established style and formulae of the franchise given it’s achievements and popularity so far. Unfortunately this also means that any improvements to the series from a storytelling narrative perspective are unlikely to occur.

We’ll bring you any formal announcements as they surface over the future, for now let us know if seeing the Michael Bay incarnation of the Transformers franchise continue is something you’d like to see?

Special thanks goes to the Transformers fan who gave accessreel a heads up about this development.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
