Supanova Generates Buzz With Angels, Agents and Artists for April

The excitement is palpable as Supanova Pop Culture Expo counts down to their Gold Coast (9-10 April) and Melbourne (16-17 April) events. Running with momentum, they’ve announced further additions to their celebrity guest line up, featuring stars of well-known and popular franchises.

Leading the cavalcade is Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Friday Night Lights star, Adrianne Palicki. No stranger to superheroes, Adrianne starred as Lady Jayne in the film G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, and appeared as Wonder Woman in the 2011 TV pilot. Her next appearance will be in the upcoming tele-movie, Marvel’s Most Wanted as her S.H.I.E.L.D. character, Bobbi Morse aka ‘Mockingjay’.

Stepping through stage and screen is Burn Gorman, the British actor best known for playing Owen Harper in the television series, Torchwood. The Pacific Rim star recently appeared in Stan Lee’s Lucky Man, and had a recurring role in seasons 3 and 4 of Game of Thrones. His can next be seen in the forthcoming mini-series And Then There Were None.

Another Brit on the rise is Bonnie Wright, returning to Australia for her second tour with Supanova. Bonnie starred as Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter films, and has since gone on to direct 3 short films including Medusa’s Ankles – in which she also stars alongside fellow Potter star, Jason Isaacs.

Conjointly returning for her second Supanova tour is Amy Acker. The actress gained a cult following as ‘Fred’ in Joss Whedon’s series Angel. Flaming the fire, she made further appearances in Whedon’s Alias and Dollhouse, and more recently Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Amy currently stars as ‘Root’, a recurring role on the television series Person of Interest.

Post-apocalyptic drama The 100 is television hot property, and now airing its third season. Two of its stars, Richard Harmon and Sachin Sahel – who play John Murphy and Jackson respectively, form part of April’s guest line up. Richard previously starred in the series Continuum, while Sachin made an appearance in episode 4 of the recent X-Files reboot.

Also heading to Supanova are international comic creators, Jason Latour and Bruno Redondo. Latour, an American comic book writer and artist, is famous for his Eisner-nominated series Southern Bastards – now optioned for television. He is also the co-creator and writer of Marvel’s Spider-Gwen.

Spanish artist, Redondo currently pencils the interiors for DC Comic’s Injustice: Gods Among Us. He previously worked on the titles Batman: Arkham Unhinged and Star Wars: Darth Maul – Death Sentence, among others.

Unfortunately Doctor Who’s Michelle Gomez and Torchwood’s Eve Myles have had to postpone their April appearances. The actresses send their apologies to fans and hope to reschedule their appearance for another Supanova event in the near future.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
