The makers of the science fiction flick Skyline have announced a new adventurous endeavour, War Of The Ages. Although Skyline was not well received WOTA has enough originality behind it to create a large amount of interest. Colin and Greg Strause, the directors, are behind the production and deem it as their “3D epic”. The Strause brothers explained some of the plot in a recent interview.
“War of the Ages is going to be the next news item. Basically, an ancient artifact is uncovered, time is shattered and the seven greatest war leaders in history have to battle each other out. It’s sort of like The Lord of the Rings meets Gladiator. You have Napoleon vs. Julius Caesar vs. Attila the Hun vs. Genghis Khan vs. Alexander vs. Hannibal. So, there you go. It’s going to be in 3D and it’s a big sword-and-sandal epic.”
So basically it’s a representation of all the day dreams you had in history class, when you sat there pretending to listen to the teacher and thinking a little too much about how Genghis Khan could totally kick Julius Caesars aristocratic butt, I thinks it sounds pretty awesome. The Strause brothers also gave information about how they plan to sell the film
“We just finished up the script and we have just finished the trailer we shot for it. It’s sort of the same way we did Skyline, except this is a much, much bigger film. In Skyline, we shot a 90-second trailer to get everybody excited about the movie before we sold it. We’re kind of following in the same footsteps, but learning from the experience and pushing forward.”
Hopefully they promote the hell out of this and have a lot of fun with it. Not only does it not sound like something that could be taken too seriously but it also sounds like something that could also pave the way for a comeback of the awesome epic adventure films of the 80s. If it looks like Bill and Ted meets Lord of The Rings and Gladiator, I’m excited. Hopefully they don’t get too distracted with doing a Skyline 2.
