Over the weekend, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the US ABC network released the trailer for the 84th Oscars. The main piurpose of the trailer is to remind us that the ceremony is back in the experienced hands of host Billy Crystal.
Last year’s ceremony was deemed to have been somewhat of a flop because hosts Anne Hathaway and particularly James Franco were seen as not up to the task. The host of the 84th was set to be Eddie Murphy, however he stepped down in November after the Oscars’ producer Brett Ratner was sacked for making homophobic remarks to the media. Crystal was then sought to host the ceremony.
This new trailer is the brainchild of the Internet comedy folk at Funny or Die. They have made the interesting choice of flavouring their promo with the star charisma of Josh Duhamel, Megan Fox and Vinnie Jones. The talented William Fichtner and comedian Robin Williams are also along for the ride.
Crystal has MC’d Hollywood’s big night an impressive eight times so far, but still short of the record set by all time champion, Bob Hope. The 84th Academy Awards will air on February 26th, 2012.
