Pacific Rim 2 Update

Pacific Rim 2 Update

A sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim is officially happening, with Legendary Pictures announcing they are scheduling the sequel for an April 2017 release. Pacific Rim was last year’s Jaeger vs Kaiju film, which made a splash at the international box office leading to not only this sequel but also an animated series set for release sometime prior to the second film.

Guillermo recently made comments to media indicating that he’s been working on a screen play to continue the story in this universe, teaming up with Zak Penn and Travis Beacham who was a co-writer on the original film.

Elaborating further, del Toro also commented that the new film will follow the characters already established, but that with the scene already set they are primed to ramp up events even more this time around without holding anything back.

Now with all that said Pacific Rim certainly isn’t the only thing del Toro is focussing on, always seeming to have multiple projects in the works the director also intends to take some time out from the Pacific Rim universe to film a small black and white film in early 2015. Details are pretty slim at this point, so we’ll have to keep waiting to hear more about it.

The Hellboy director’s next film Crimson Peak is currently in post-production with a 2015 release planned, the film stars Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
