Quirky Moonrise Kingdom Breaks Records

Quirky Moonrise Kingdom Breaks Records

Director Wes Anderson proves it’s about quality not quantity, breaking the all-time per screen record with his limited release film Moonrise Kingdom.

If you haven’t watched the trailer for Wes Anderson’s latest bizarre little flick then check it out now. The all star cast suggested this little gem was set to be cool, and the amazing performance at the US box office on the weekend backs this assumption with hard evidence.

Moonrise Kingdom took $509,000 on just four screens in New York and Los Angeles, averaging a staggering $127,500 per screen: Not too shabby at all!

These impressive numbers break the previous record of $109,485 set by Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain in 2005.

Moonrise Kingdom is scheduled for release in Aus on August 30th and stars Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton…yeah the list goes on.

I would give you a synopsis but what would be the point when I could just as easily post up the far more poetic trailer? Check it out:

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. As a pre-teen Sian spent more pocket money then she earned on cinema tickets and thus sought a job at the cinema. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
