Fans of the Resident Evil franchise will be excited to know that the next instalment in the franchise is less than two years away. The most recent film in the franchise “Resident Evil: Afterlife” was released during the second half of 2010 on a production budget of approximately $75 million the film went on to gross approximately $296 million from its theatrical run. The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray in Australia on 2nd March 2011.
It seems as though the Milla Jovovich starring franchise is continuing its momentum as Sony has announced a release date of September 2012 for the next instalment. Paul WS Anderson directed the first and fourth Resident Evil films, and has been involved as a producer on all four films to date. There’s no mention in this recent announcement if Anderson will be directing the new film though it is likely given his proximity to the franchise so far that he’ll be involved in some way.
