Robocop might be getting a director

Hot on the heels of recent discussions about a Robocop reboot gaining traction again, there now appears to be some more news about a possible director attached to the project. It seems that director Jose Padilha is currently in talks about taking over the role which had previously been rumoured to have Darren Aronofsky attached.

If production on the reboot is to proceed in the short term future the studio will obviously need to look beyond Aronofsky who will likely be busy on the Wolverine sequel for the time being.

Jose Padilha is an award winning Brazilian director with a relatively short number of films in his filmography including several documentaries as well as the commercial and critical (but controversial) success ‘The Elite Squad’ which was released in 2007. This film is a semi-fictional account of the Special Police Operations Battalion of the Rio de Janeiro Military Police and spawned a successful sequel in 2010.

Stay tuned for more news as it progresses.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
