Star Wars: Rogue One, it’s almost here and represents the first in a series of Star Wars films that will sit independently of the traditional, episodic instalments. The next standalone film in the works is a young Han Solo film, and it’s also rumoured that we might see an Obiwan film, somewhere down the line.
But how do these standalone films sit in terms of turning into franchises of their own? Could we also see a Rogue Two and a Rogue Three film? Well, it doesn’t look like it. Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy recently made the announcement the irrespective of how well this film performs at the box office, there will be no sequel, none.
This might be a hint that things don’t end so well for our cast of characters, or that the film follows closely into the opening of Episode IV, leaving no room for a sequel. Or it could simply be that it’s Lucasfilm’s intent that no sequel be made to these standalones – but in the case of a Han Solo film, that’s difficult to imagine.
All will be revealed soon I’m sure, two days to go!
