The word is out that Australia’s Guy Pearce is in final talks to play the part of geneticist Aldrich Killian in IRON MAN 3. The news follows on the heels of the announcement that Ben Kingsley will play the film’s villain, The Mandarin.
The cast of IM3 is mostly unchanged from the first sequel with Robert Downey Jr,. Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson and Don Cheadle all returning to reprise their roles. In the new movie, the geneticist develops a nanotech virus that he sells to terrorists.
If Pearce is confirmed for IRON MAN 3 then it will be his second big feature in as many years. Later in 2012, audiences will see the actor in Ridely Scott’s PROMETHEUS, the quasi-prequel to ALIEN.
Shooting on IRON MAN 3 is set to begin next month. Shane Black will direct from a script he co-wrote with UK writer-producer Drew Pearce (no relation). Interesting factoid: Drew Pearce has a fan base for his 2008 British TV superhero sitcom NO HEROICS.
