When I hear the word “Russia” the last thing that springs to mind is film…unless it’s to lament how crap DIE HARD 5 (set in Russia) was. But it appears the country can make more than just vodka, with the upcoming film festival, Russian Resurrection, bringing the nation’s best movies down under.
The 2014 season launches in Perth on November 6, with the festival running through to November 12. But ticket sales go on sale as early as this Wednesday.
Embarking on it’s 11th year, the festival showcases the best of Russia’s film industry and pays homage to the finest in Russian film culture.
This year the festival will celebrate the 90th anniversary of Mosfilm – Russia’s inaugural film studio – with an exhibition of six retrospective films and 14 brand new films. Perthians will be able to check them out at Event Cinema Innaloo.
Amongst the selection that will feature at Russian Resurrection are:
TEST, winner of 2014’s Kinotavr Film Festival’s Best Film;
STALINGRAD, a compelling film on the epic battle between Russian and German forces during WWII; and
DERSU UZALA winner of the 1976 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
