Ryan Corr’s reputation as an actor has grown steadily in this country. Many know him for his television work such as Bluewater High (2006), Underbelly:The Golden Mile (2010) or Packed to the Rafters (2009-13). In feature film he has had roles in Not Suitable for Children (2012), Wolf Creek 2 (2013) and The Water Diviner (2014).
The part of Timothy Conigrave is his most important role to date. Corr plays the author of the well-known memoir HOLDING THE MAN. The book documents Conigrave’s fifteen-year relationship with his lover John Caleo. Corr has many moving, emotional and exposing scenes to play as Conigrave. The movie is directed by Neil Armfield and co-stars Craig Stott in the role of John Caleo. Our AccessReel review is here.
We spoke to Ryan Corr when he was in town promoting the movie. He jumped straight into the questions and had plenty to say about playing a real life character for the first time. The telephone connection wavers occassionally, and your AccessReel interviewer’s questions are a bit loud at times, but we say hang in there to catch a fascinating insight into Ryan’s process in making this engaging Australian film.
