Save The Date: The Avengers Sequel Gets Release Date!

Get out your diaries! Walt Disney Studios have wasted no time securing their spot on the 2015 release schedule with The Avengers sequel release date already chosen!

It’ll be Friday May 1st 2015 that we’ll see if The Avengers can assemble once more to record-breaking box office figures.

The studio announced the date on Thursday and confirmed last week that director Joss Whedon will be returning to write and direct the project as part of an exclusive three-year film and television deal with Marvel (nice work Whedon!)

We’ll be seeing alot of our favourite heroes on the big screen in the next few years with Iron Man 3 due out May 3rd 2013, Thor 2 hitting screens in November 2013 and Captain America 2 set for April 2014. Good news all round!

With a global box office of $1.46M, The Avengers is the third biggest release of all time. And the film is just beginning its run in Japan, the final international market.

The Avengers opened in North America May 4 with a staggering $207.4 million – the biggest US debut of all time – and has been shattering box office records ever since including the industry’s all-time second weekend record with $103 million; fastest film to reach $200 million (3 days), $300 million (9 days), $400 million (14 days), and $500 million (23 days); and highest Saturday ($69.5 million) and Sunday ($57 million) totals.

Basically, they’ve made a pot of money and with film number 2 there’s only more to be made…shame we have to wait three years. Be patient everyone: our time will come.

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. As a pre-teen Sian spent more pocket money then she earned on cinema tickets and thus sought a job at the cinema. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
