HIGH GROUND opens in Australian cinemas on January 28th 2020. It’s an absolutely incredible film that everyone should see. Maybe it should even be shown in schools. Just after the NT premiere in Darwin, Accessreel had the chance to jump on Zoom with the two stars of the film, Simon Baker and Jacob Junior Nayinggul. The film is Jacob’s first and he’s brilliant. He was somewhat shy during this interview which is totally understandable. He is receiving an unusual amount of media attention right now that he’s not used to getting.
Set against the stunning landscapes of 1930s Arnhem Land, HIGH GROUND chronicles young Aboriginal man Gutjuk, who in a bid to save the last of his family, teams up with ex-soldier Travis to track down Baywara — the most dangerous warrior in the Territory, who is also his uncle. As Travis and Gutjuk journey through the outback, they begin to earn each other’s trust, but when the truths of Travis’ past actions are suddenly revealed, it is he who becomes the hunted.
I’ve added the trailer at the start of the interview so you can get some idea of the images and drama the film delivers. Please enjoy our chat with the lads of HIGH GROUND. Also check out Laura’s review of the film here.
