Sin City 2 on the way

Sin City 2 on the way

‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ is well into production by this stage with direction coming from both Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, based on of course the Frank Miller series of graphic novels by the same name. With a release date scheduled for later this year details on the film are finally starting to come through for this long awaited sequel to the 2005 release.

Some of the details that Rodriguez has let out include the return of Bruce Willis. Playing the hero cop Hartigan in the original film it was uncertain whether he would return or not, however it seems that he’ll be back for sure alongside other existing cast members including Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, and Jamie King.

Interestingly to note for fans of the graphics novels is that some of those characters never appeared again in the Frank Miller books after the stories depicted in the first film, so it’s likely that Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez have generated some new material for the film to keep us all guessing as to what’s going to happen.

Jamie Chung, Dennis Haysbert, and Josh Brolin are all joining the series in existing roles to be carried over into the sequel with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, and Juno Temple also joining the cast.

From the title of the film clearly the main focus will be the ‘A Dame to Kill For’ story arc from the graphic novels, however as with the first film there’s likely to be a number of other story arcs intertwined to round things out. Rodriguez has been quoted as follows regarding Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character and one of the non-Dame story arcs;

He plays a gambler, a very cocky gambler who comes in and tries to beat the biggest villian in Sin City at his own game. The story is called The Long Bad Night. He beats the wrong guy in the game. Bad stuff happens to him. Bad stuff.

With a release late in 2013 and filming well underway, we should be seeing a trailer within the next couple of months.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
