Released in 2005 the film ‘Sin City’ was directed by Robert Rodriguez with guest directors Frank Miller and Quentin Tarantino. Adapting three main story arcs from the Frank Miller written comic series, ‘Sin City’ was a sound financial success achieving a word wide gross of approximately $158 million with a production budget of $40 million.
The film was generally well received by audiences and proved to be more than a worthy translation of the source material, with much of the dialogue and panels from the books moved directly into the film adaptation. Since its release there has been ongoing speculation about a sequel, and which remaining story arcs would potentially be adapted from the source material.
Angelina Jolie has long been rumoured to have a large role in the next film, along with Clive Owen returning as the character ‘Dwight’ though no official casting announcements have ever been made.
It is now being reported that Rodriguez has made comments in reference to the sequel, stating that the script is still currently being worked on however that he intends to begin filming the sequel during 2011.
There have still been no official casting announcements and as we are well into the second half of the year if the project is to begin this year momentum will need to start building soon. Still this is positive news for fans of the franchise…however file it under ‘wait and see’ for now and hopefully we’ll see some formal announcements soon!
