Sinister Six still going ahead

Sinister Six still going ahead

Following the huge news this week about Sony’s new relationship with Marvel Studios which will see Spidey appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, speculation immediately begun on what this meant for the Spidey-verse of films we’ve been hearing about over the last few years.

Sony’s mini cross franchise universe of Spidey films included a Venom , and Sinister Six franchise running alongside the Amazing Spiderman series. Amazing Spiderman 2 included a few scenes which act as a bridge towards the Sinister Six and with this week’s announcement it was looking like all those plans would be scrapped.

However, it appears that the Sinister Six film is still in the works, with Drew Goddard still attached to direct. While the specific release date is now uncertain, it will at least be post-Spiderman’s appearance in the MCU which Sony no doubt hopes will help rejuvenate interest in their ongoing Spiderman solo films.

While Sinister Six might still happen, it’s highly likely it’ll need a big rewrite, as the current incarnation no doubt ties into the Marc Webb/Andrew Garfield film series, which is about to become mostly irrelevant in the context of the character joining up with the MCU.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
