Steven Soderbergh’s new film Side Effects

For some reason, whenever I hear a about a film directed or produced by Steven Soderbergh I immediately want to know more. He is the ‘Jack-of-all-Trades’ in film business.

The thing that’s different about him, is that, he isn’t one of those Hollywood born directors that grew up in the industry. He isn’t someone who inherited all his talent from his parents or had a famous upbringing. He has talent and he uses this to his advantage. His films include; Oceans Eleven (2001), Erin Brockovich (2000), Contagion (2011) and for the ladies Magic Mike (2012). He is also a producer and writer, cinematographer, editor and has even dipped his toes into the sound department. Thus far, he has won 26 awards with 46 nominations. One being the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989 for Sex, Lies, and Videotape.

His next film Side Effects looks pretty damn interesting. Soderbergh is known to work with actors multiple times and this film is no exception. He has cast Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones among many others who he has worked with previously. Here’s the synopsis for Side Effects:

“A woman turns to prescription medication as a way of handling her anxiety concerning her husband’s upcoming release from prison.”

It hits cinemas in Australia 7 March.

Stacey's favourite films include: Titanic (1997), Cast Away (2000), Moulin Rouge (2001), The Notebook (2004), Kill Bill vol.1 and 2 (2003, 2004), Ruby Sparks (2012) and the list goes on.
