The X-Men franchise is moving along quite nicely with two new instalments currently in the works including the new Wolverine film and of course the sequel to X-Men: First Class. We recently received word that Matthew Vaughn was no longer attached to direct the sequel to First Class, and that series founder Bryan Singer would be returning as director to the series he started.Since then there have been several rumours circulating that indicate we might see some of the original cast members returning for the new film, particularly given the time-travel elements from the story arc that the film is based on which is called Days of Future Past.
Bryan Singer broke the news via his twitter account that this is indeed the case and that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are returning to the X-franchise. His exact tweet is replicated below;
Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @SirPatStew are joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysOfFuturePast #magneto #professorX More to come…
Neither actor has been involved in the series since the release of X-Men: The Last Stand, their character’s were brilliantly portrayed by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in Matthew Vaughn’s film, the possibility of having all four of these actors sharing the screen under Singer’s direction is an exciting prospect.
