With the start of a new year comes a new round of conventions to look forward to and one of the foundations of the Australian pop culture convention scene is no doubt the various Supanova tours that occur throughout the year. 2012 is going to be a massive year for Supanova with no less than three separate tours taking place throughout the year. To kick things off we are looking at some of the guests that have been revealed in the first round of announcements for the Melbourne – Gold Coast tour occurring over April.
The first reveals focus on the various actors whom will be appearing at the conventions, make sure to stay tuned for new announcements on the animation and comic side of things over the next few months.
First up we have Oliver and James Phelps, the actors whom portrayed the Weasley twins for the Harry Potter franchise. Nelsan Ellis whom portrays ‘Lafayette’ on the HBO vampire saga ‘True Blood’ will also be appearing, Nelsan has been involved in directing as well as producing, with the bulk of his career occurring in the acting space. Appearances outside the ‘True Blood’ franchise include the exceptional ‘Veronica Mars’, as well as two films currently in pre-production ‘Gods Behaving Badly’ and ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’.
Next up we have Gil Gerard who has appeared in a number of films and TV series the most recognizable of which no doubt being “Buck Rogers” from the feature film and the TV series “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century”. Elisabeth Rohm has been scheduled for the convention, Elisabeth has appeared in several episodes of the TV series ‘Heroes’, ‘90210’, ‘CSI:Miami’ and has a number of films both in pre and post production on her resume.
‘Smallville’ fans will be pleased to hear that Allison Mack, the actress who portrayed the character ‘Chloe Sullivan’ for the series has been announced, Allison has a long list of productions under her belt with ‘Smallville’ being her most recognisable, she has also been cast in the splatter fest sequel ‘Piranha 3DD’ which is scheduled to be released in 2012.
Chandler Riggs of TV ‘The Walking Dead’ will be appearing at Supanova, born in 1999 Chandler quickly found his way into professional acting appearing in the TV film ‘The Wronged Man’ as well as so far nineteen episode of the hit AMC zombie filled show. Lastly but most certainly not least we have Jim Kelly heading to Australia for Supanova, Jim established himself as one of the top martial arts stars of the 1970’s during which time he appeared in the film ‘Enter the Dragon’ opposite Bruce Lee.
There you have it, some exciting guests in that first reveal, don’t forget the first 2012 Supanova tour will be April 13 – 15 in Melbourne at the Melbourne Showgrounds followed by the Gold Coast on April 20 – 22 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
