The Supergirl movie is bringing Kara Zor-El back to the big screen, with Australian actor Milly Alcock leading DC Studios’ newest cinematic adventure.
Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl stars Alcock in the dual role of Kara Zor-El and Supergirl. The film is set to open internationally from June 24, with Australian cinemas listing the film for June 25.
When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.
The film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham, with David Corenswet and Jason Momoa also appearing. DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing the film, which is being released by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Supergirl Movie Brings Kara Zor-El Into the New DCU
Supergirl arrives at a major moment for DC on the big screen. Following the launch of the new DC Studios era, the film gives Kara Zor-El her own standalone adventure while expanding the wider universe around Superman, Lobo and the cosmic side of DC.
Alcock, best known to many audiences for House of the Dragon, steps into one of DC’s most recognisable roles as Kara Zor-El, a character shaped by loss, survival and the legacy of Krypton. Rather than simply positioning Supergirl as another version of Superman, the film appears to be leaning into her own emotional journey and place within the DC universe.
Jason Momoa’s involvement as Lobo has also made the film a major talking point for fans, with the interstellar setting opening the door for a very different flavour of DC adventure.
