Swinging Safari Q&A

Swinging Safari Q&A

Luna Palace Cinemas announces that actress Asher Keddie will join Priscilla director Stephan Elliott for a Q&A screening of his laugh-out-loud comedy and ode to a 1970’s Australian summer, SWINGING SAFARI, at Cinema Paradiso in January. Keddie (Offspring) and Elliott (The Adventures of Priscilla. Queen of the Desert) will present the special screening at 6.30pm on Wednesday, 17 January at Cinema Paradiso, followed by a Q&A after the screening hosted by Christian Horgan.

The movie is set in ’70s Australia. The blurb is: A 200-ton blue whale washes up on a local beach and the kids think it’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened in their lives. Behind closed doors, the mums and dads of this quiet suburban cul-de-sac celebrate in their own special way, by joining the sexual revolution. It’s a time of boxed wine, bad hair, bad styles, bad choices, but good times. And like the rotting whale, it’s all about to go spectacularly wrong.

SWINGING SAFARI is a celebration of Australian summer combined with a healthy dose of nostalgia. Set in a typical Australian beachside neighbourhood at the height of a 1970s summer, SWINGING SAFARI is a love letter to a world of careless parenting, constant sunburn and unsupervised activities.

Written and directed by Elliott, Keddie stars alongside a stellar cast of Australian actors including Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Radha Mitchell, Julian McMahon and Jeremy Sims. The film also stars Jack Thompson, Darcey Wilson and newcomer Atticus Robb. SWINGING SAFARI reunites several key members of the team behind Australian classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of The Desert, with Stephan Elliott and Guy Pearce joined by producer Al Clark, production designer Colin Gibson (who recently won an Oscar, BAFTA and AACTA for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road) and Oscar, BAFTA and Tony award-winning costume designer, Lizzy Gardiner, as well as editor Sue Blainey and composer Guy Gross.

Further details about the Q&A and screening available here. Attendees are invited to go retro and step out in their best 1970s gear for your chance to win some Swinging Safari merch.

The SWINGING SAFARI season opens on January 18 at Cinema Paradiso.
