It’s now been four years since ‘Terminator: Salvation’ was released and since then future sequels for the franchise have been uncertain at best. Salvation was originally intended to be the first of a new trilogy of films, however the series in that form has been left aside.
It was recently announced however that the franchise will continue with a new film slated for a June 2015 release with distribution by Paramount Pictures. Both Paramount and franchise owner Skydance Productions made a joint press release indicating the new film is intended to be the first of a new standalone trilogy of Terminator films (sound familiar?).
It seems that the current intent is for this new film to essentially act as a reboot for the series, however whether that is intended to be a true reboot to the entire franchise, or more of an Incredible Hulk-esque distant independent sequel to the previous films, we’ll have to wait and see.
Should Terminator 5 hit its mark in 2015, it’ll be competing with both Star Wars: Episode VII and Avengers 2, making for one unforgettable summer of films.
