The Avengers 2 – Tony Stark “big part”

Marvel Studios president talks Tony Stark and Avengers 2.

Whilst Robert Downey Jr does not have any current contracts with Marvel to continue playing Tony Stark beyond the recently released Iron Man 3, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed Tony Stark will be returning as a “big part” of Avengers 2:

“We’re not developing an Iron Man 4. Currently, as you may imagine, Iron Man is a big part of Avengers 2 and that’s what we’re focusing on and what Joss [Whedon] is focusing on.  Where we go after that remains to be seen, but certainly, Avengers 2 being the next appearance, the next storyline for Iron Man”  Feige told Super Hero Hype.

Though I notice there is no mention in this quote of the role being played by RD Jr… BUT director Joss Whedon had more to add on this subject, plus his own speculation on an Iron Man 4:

The Avengers 2 will most likely have Robert Downey Jr playing the Iron Man. Iron Man 3 recently came out in theatres and already is knocking out box offices. Fans already want to know if there will be an Iron Man 4. Just because Marvel isn’t working on one right now doesn’t mean it won’t be coming”

This seems to gel with reports from the Iron Man himself: Only 4 days ago Robert Downey Jr stated in an interview on The Daily Show that he is “renegotiating his contract” with Marvel.

Considering he made a confirmed $50 million for the first Avengers, I shudder to think what this new contract could hold…!

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. As a pre-teen Sian spent more pocket money then she earned on cinema tickets and thus sought a job at the cinema. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
