The Dark Knight Rises is underway

The next film in the current Batman series directed by Christopher Nolan has reportedly begun principal photography in India. The film will see Christian Bale returning to the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman accompanied by several cast members returning from the earlier films. With a scheduled release date of mid 2012 shooting will no doubt run over the next few months before things move into post-production leading up to the release date.

Previous casting announcements have added newcomers to the series Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tom Hardy. With the introduction of characters including Selina Kyle, as well as Bane, there is an abundant amount of source material that Nolan will be potentially drawing upon for the film. Depending on what story elements will be utilised, it will take a talented film maker to weave them into one cohesive film while giving the various characters some room to breathe and develop.

With both a new Batman and Superman film on the way, and with Green Lantern to be released within the next few months (be sure to check out the new trailer), it appears the momentum may be building somewhat for the DC adaptations, which have trailed a long way behind the Marvel productions for a number of years.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
