Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Steals 11 BAFTA Noms

Critically acclaimed British espionage thriller TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY receives 11 Nominations for the 2012 Orange British Academy Film Awards including all key categories.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the nominations for this year’s awards in London yesterday which included Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy for Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Adapted Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design and Sound.

Swedish born TOMAS ALFREDSON is nominated for Director and GARY OLDMAN for Leading Man.

The film’s producer and Working Title Films’ co-chair TIM BEVAN says “A producer’s dream is both commercial and critical success. The British audience with their whole-hearted support of the movie has given us the first and the UK press and now the BAFTA nominations have given us the latter”.

TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY is the long-awaited feature film version of John le Carré’s classic bestselling novel. The thriller is directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In). The film stars an outstanding cast including GARY OLDMAN, COLIN FIRTH, JOHN HURT, TOBY JONES, TOM HARDY, BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH, CIARÁN HINDS, MARK STRONG, KATHY BURKE and STEPHEN GRAHAM. It is produced by TIM BEVAN, ERIC FELLNER and ROBYN SLOVO and the screenplay adaptation is by the writing team of BRIDGET O’CONNOR & PETER STRAUGHAN.

George Smiley, a recently retired MI6 agent, is doing his best to adjust to a life outside the secret service. However, when a disgraced agent reappears with information concerning a mole at the heart of the Circus, Smiley is drawn back into the murky field of espionage.

Tasked with investigating which of his trusted former colleagues has chosen to betray him and their country, Smiley narrows his search to four suspects – all experienced, urbane, successful agents – but past histories, rivalries and friendships make it far from easy to pinpoint the man who is eating away at the heart of the British establishment…

The Orange British Academy Film Awards will take place on Sunday 12th February at the Royal Opera House, London.

TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY opens in Australia this Thursday 19th January.
