Tomb Raider Reboot Announced

Lara Croft is another step closer to returning to the big screen after the announcement that GK Films have acquired the feature film rights to the Tomb Raider franchise which began life as a video game making its debut on the Sega Saturn, Sony Playstation and PC in 1996. Since this initial release the franchise has continues as a series of video games, comic books, novels as well as two feature films starring Angelina Jolie which were released in 2001 and 2003.

The first film achieved an approximate worldwide gross of $274 million with the sequel not performing nearly as well with an approximate worldwide gross of $156 million putting any plans for a third instalment on hold indefinitely.

The announcement from GK Films has stated that they intend to reboot the franchise and are targeting a 2013 release of the first film in what will no doubt be an ongoing franchise should the financial performance of the first film provide for it.

Graham King and Tim Headington are producing the film with King stating;

We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the Tomb Raider phenomenon.
