We all know that Joel Edgerton is a gifted film maker this time around hes taking on Boy Erased from the memoir of Garrard Conley which recounts his childhood in a fundamentalist Arkansas family who enrolled him in gay conversion therapy. The film stars Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Troye Sivan, Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Joel will also be playing the role of Victor Sykes the head of the gay conversion program.
Garrard (Lucas Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, is outed to his parents (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe) as gay at the age of 19. Garrard is quickly pressured into attending a gay conversion therapy program – or else be shunned by his family, friends, and church. It is within the program that Garrard comes into conflict with its head therapist (Joel Edgerton).
No Australian release date as yet but I expect that to be announced very soon, I have a feeling awards season may include this one…
