DIVERGENT is a new feature film based on author Veronica Roth’s best-selling novel of the same name. The novel fits into the young adult category and it takes place in a dystopic future. The story is set in Chicago, where people are divided into five distinct factions based on their personalities. Beatrice “Tris” Prior discovers that she is Divergent, meaning she does not fit into any one faction, and soon uncovers a sinister plot brewing in her seemingly perfect society.
The marketing of the movie is obviously influenced by THE HUNGER GAMES and in fact Lionsgate Entertainment the company behind the movie doubled its budget to $80 million in the wake of THE HUNGER GAMES’ box office success.
Shailene Woodley who impressed in her movie debut THE DESCENDANTS (2011) plays Tris Prior. The film is director by Neil Burger who was also responsible for THE ILLUSIONIST (2006) and LIMITLESS (2011).
DIVERGENT is set to make a big nosie at the box office in 2014. It premieres in the US and in Australia in March.
