Transformers Smashes Australian Box Office

Transformers Smashes Australian Box Office

Word just hit my inbox in the form of a shiny new press release that tells us, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON has had the biggest opening day in 2011 and has also beaten out the previous two films’ opening day box office also. So is this going to be the end of Paramount Pictures’ biggest franchise? That’s the question I’m starting to ponder.

Now I know that Bay has come out saying it’s his ‘last’ one and same with Shia! But I dunno, personally the third one in my eyes is damn impressive, well you may have read my review so you would know that already, even though it’s been fairly mixed from some critics. So congrats to Paramount on a stellar opening day here in Australia, the interesting part of all this is in the States they are already saying its going to pull in $35million opening day which is no mean feat!

I think this South Park Clip sums up exactly how much I love Michael Bay and some other directors.

And here’s the press release.

TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, the highly anticipated latest installment of Michael Bay’s Transformer franchise, opened in Australian cinemas at midnight last night and took an outstanding AUD$2,650,788 in its first day. This is the biggest opening day for a film at the Australian box office this year and beats both of its predecessors as the biggest opening day for a Transformers film.

The film was shot using the 3D technology that was developed for Avatar and obviously audiences can’t get enough with 70% of the box office taken on opening day being from 3D screens.

When a mysterious event from Earth’s past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us. The third installment of the hit franchise, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON stars Shia LaBeouf, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, with John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.
