Last we heard on the troubled production to bring a new live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film to screens was that the studio had shut down production for the time being due to script issues that needed to be worked through. There has already been some controversy around the story after details surfaced about the idea of the turtle characters being from outer space, which is contrary to the origin story in the source material.
New rumours have emerged regarding some more story details in the script for Turtles, though with the recent holdup on production whether any of these ideas will survive to the final product remains to be seen. The details being discussed include the presence of both Bebop and Rocksteady in a new film as well as the other worldly location of Dimension X.
Fans of the franchise would no doubt recognise Dimension X as the home world of the villain Krang, which adds credit to the previous understanding of a more intergalactic perspective being taken for the new film. Bebop and Rocksteady of course coming from different origins to Krang being humans subject to mutations which give them increased size and strength (but not intelligence).
The recent rumours haven’t shed any further light as to the origins of the turtles themselves however, so whether they are connected to Dimension X or some other outer space location is still unknown.
It seems the studio isn’t in a rush to get this one out the door, with potential franchise material it’d be worth their while to make sure they produce a solid adaptation, especially given these kinds of film adaptations have been known to under deliver in the past…
