Uncharted Film Delayed?

Uncharted Film Delayed?

Previously we commented at accessreel about some news regarding progress of the film adaptation of the play station exclusive video game franchise Uncharted. It seems that negotiations with director David O. Russell have fallen through for the time being with the parties deciding to go their separate ways.

The LA Times also reports that the producers and studio are going back to the drawing board on the project re-thinking new director options and potential leads for the roles.

With things taking a step back on production of an Uncharted film it looks like any hope to see a release in 2011 is dashed for now. Even if production started late in 2010 it’s unlikely that it would be completed for release next year.

I’m a little disappointed, the Uncharted franchise seems ripe for an adaptation given the rich story telling elements and entertaining characters in the game. We’ll have to wait a while longer now to see if this idea becomes something more tangible.

In the meantime you can check out David O. Russell’s other projects including ‘Nailed’, and ‘The Fighter’ which are both tentatively scheduled for release late in 2010.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
