Underworld 4 Title Revealed

Underworld 4 Title Revealed

Recently we heard that directing duo Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein will be directing the fourth film in the Underworld franchise. The duo have previously collaborated on the 2010 film ‘Shelter’ which stars Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, as well as the Swedish TV series ‘Spung’.

In addition to the directors, IGN has provided an update reporting that the title has also been announced which is ‘Underworld 4: New Dawn’. In terms of casting Kate Beckinsale is the only announcement so far however expect to see more additions soon as the estimated date for filming to begin is March 2011.

The synopsis for the film (minor spoilers ahead) refers to the vampire Selene being held in a coma-like state for 15 years. After awakening she discovers she has a young vampire/lycan hybrid daughter called ‘Nissa’, whom she protects from being used by BioCom to create a new more powerful breed of Lycan.

The Underworld films have been a little mixed in terms of quality but have been entertaining for the most part, and delivered a very stylish setting where the events take place.

The original film released in 2003, grossed an approximate $95 million world wide from a production budget of just $22 million with the sequels performing similarly albeit with a larger production budget.

We know that Darran at accessreel is a big fan of the Underworld franchise, what do others think? I’ve always found the dark style, and moody feel of each film to be quite good however ultimately they’ve managed to disappoint here and there, but remain enjoyable to watch. It’ll be interesting to see where things go in the next instalment.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
